Welcome to the latest issue of Education Today. This month, we look at two topics which in their own way are fraught with challenges – tackling student obesity; and homework.

In our first feature on tackling student obesity, we hear from Dan Newton at Rounders England, who talks us through his organisation’s approach to helping pupils stay active, engaged and healthy. In our second, we speak to Stephen Newey, from Goalball UK’s National School Programme, who discusses the importance of offering inclusive access to exercise to all pupils, and explains how goalball allows the visually impaired in our schools to enjoy the benefits of exercise and team sport.

Meanwhile, in our homework feature, education journalist Sal McKeown travels to a primary school in Exeter to see how the school is helping its pupils develop confidence and ability in maths.

Elsewhere in the magazine we hear from author David Gumbrell, who tells us about his book “LIFT!”, a primer for teachers looking to boost their own self-confidence and resilience; Graham Cooper and Kirsty Bertenshaw are on hand as always with insight and advice; our ever-popular View from the classroom series continues with a look behind the gates of the Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School in Coventry; and we have all the usual news and comment to help inform and entertain you.

Remember, we love to hear from you, you can get in touch with us via Twitter @EdTodayMag, Facebook and our homepage, as well as by phone or email.

Enjoy the issue!
