Welcome to the latest issue of Education Today, and a Happy New Year. This month, we focus on annual ed tech trade show Bett, looking at the exhibitors and introducing the speakers and the seminar programme; and we also do the same for the co-located Education Show, introducing some of the show’s key exhibitors to you in the expectation you’ll stop by to see what they’ve got to offer. On that note, we have a stand at the show, and we’d love to see you – make sure you stop by and say hello!

We also take an in-depth look at school trips this month – in our first feature, Katie Armstrong, PE teacher at Ullswater Community College in Penrith, shares her thoughts on the importance of school sports trips; while in our second, Gill Harvey, CEO of The School Travel Forum, argues that we mustn’t let fear of paperwork stop us from giving our students opportunities to learn outside the classroom.

We continue our regular section shining a spotlight on the many aspects of SEND with Joanne Gladders and Kate Sarginson, have Graham Cooper and Kirsty Bertenshaw as always offering insight and advice, and a great roster of commenters sharing their thoughts on the world of education.

What’s more, we continue our section on education writers, “From the pen of…”, with Julia Golding, author of The Curious Crime, who talks about encouraging girls to get involved with science.

Remember, we love to hear from you, you can get in touch with us via Twitter @EdTodayMag, Facebook and our homepage, as well as by phone or email.

Enjoy the issue!
